Communication Lab

Welcome to the communication lab at IIIT-Naya Raipur. This communication Lab provides the necessary hardware and software resources to the undergraduate and research students of electronics and communication engineering for enhancing their skills in communication field. Theory in the classroom is translated directly into practice with the help of the Ettus USRP software defined radio platform and Matlab/National Instrument’s LabVIEW. The emphasis is on physical layer concepts rather than implementation considerations.

Description:The Signal Analyser (Keysight MXA N9020B-513) provides a frequency range from 10 Hz to 13.6 GHz with a maximum analysis bandwidth of 160 MHz.
Description:The Digital Anolog Telecommunication EXperimenter unit (DATex) is an add-on board for the NI ELVIS used for teaching analog and digital Telecommunications theory to university students. With Emona DATEx, over 29 analog and digital telecom’s experiments can be implemented on one board, plugged into the NI ELVIS platform. These experiments include basic analog communication experiments, such as amplitude modulation (AM), frequency modulation (FM), phase modulation (PM) and digital communication experiments including sampling, pulse-code modulation (PCM), amplitude-shift keying (ASK), and quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK), frequency-shift keying (FSK) and more. In addition, it also has the PC-controlled capabilities, such as on-screen control of hardware circuit blocks running Labview, automated signal processing and analysis using ELVIS instruments and building of integrated hardware-in the-loop signal control programs with Labview controlling electronic circuit blocks.



Description: RTL-SDR is a very cheap software defined radio that uses a DVB-T TV tuner dongle based on the RTL2832U chipset. It was found that by using some software the signal I/Q data could be accessed directly from this TV tuner, which allowed this DVB-T TV tuner to be converted into a wideband software defined radio via a new software driver. Essentially, this means that a cheap TV tuner can be used as a computer based radio scanner in the frequency range from approximately 25MHz-1750MHz.
Description:The RF hardware used in this lab is the National Instruments USRP (Universal Software Radio Peripheral). The USRP-2920 is a tunable RF transceiver (both transmit and receive communications) with a high-speed analog to digital converter and digital to analog converter for streaming baseband I and Q signals to a host PC over 1/10 Gigabit Ethernet. This device can operate in the frequency range from 50 MHz to 2.2 GHz with 20 MHz Bandwidth. This hardware can be configured using LabVIEW and GRC (GNU Radio Companion) software. You can use the USRP 2920 hardware for Wireless sensor networks; Non Orthogonal Multiple Access Simulation, Spectrum Sensing; amateur radio; GPS and MIMO, Massive MIMO simulation and realization.



Description:The USRP N200 series provides high-bandwidth, high-dynamic range processing capability. The product architecture includes a Xilinx® Spartan® 3A-DSP 1800 FPGA, 100 MS/s dual ADC, 400 MS/s dual DAC and Gigabit Ethernet connectivity to stream data to host processors. A modular design allows the USRP N200 to operate from DC to 6 GHz. An expansion port allows multiple USRP N200 series devices to be synchronized and used in a MIMO configuration. An optional GPSDO module can also be used to discipline the USRP N200 reference clock to within 0.01 ppm of the worldwide GPS standard. The USRP N200 can stream up to 50 MS/s to and from host applications, and users can implement custom functions in the FPGA fabric, or in the on-board 32-bit RISC softcore. The FPGA offers the potential to process up to 100 MHz of RF bandwidth in both transmit and receive directions.
Description:The Virtual Bench All-in-One Instrument combines a mixed-signal oscilloscope with protocol analysis, an arbitrary waveform generator, a digital multimeter, a programmable DC power supply, and digital I/O. The all-in-one features are simple, convenient, and provide more efficient circuit design, debugging, and validation. The included software lets you view all measurements on a single screen and can be updated with free software releases to add functionality and value. The VirtualBench All-in-One Instrument easily integrates with LabVIEW software to provide programmatic control and automated test sequences.
